**Sugar Prices Surge Amid Production Concerns**

As of October 3, sugar prices have reached significant highs, with New York world sugar #11 (SBV26) closing at $16.68, an increase of 1.58%, marking a ten-month future high. October London ICE white sugar #5 (SWV26) also climbed, closing at $511.20, a rise of 1.03%. These price hikes are driven largely by concerns over declining global sugar production, particularly influenced by drought and hot weather affecting yields in Europe.

The European Union and UK are projected to produce just 14.98 million metric tons (MMT) of sugar this year, the lowest output in 11 years. Similarly, Brazil, the world’s largest sugar producer, saw a 26.3% year-on-year production decline to 3.903 MMT in June. Analysts predict a global sugar deficit of 300,000 metric tons for the 2026/27 season, contrasting a prior forecast of a surplus, as unfavorable weather conditions contribute to tightening supplies.
