Tesla Strike Ends After Nearly Three Years
Swedish union IF Metall announced it is ending its strike against Tesla, effective August 19, 2025, after 1,021 days. The strike, which began on October 27, 2023, involved about 130 mechanics across seven Tesla workshops and aimed to secure a collective agreement for workers. Rather than signing the agreement, Tesla opted to offer severance packages to striking members, leading to the withdrawal of the last members represented by the union.
The conflict not only marked the longest labor strike in modern Swedish history but also resulted in a significant decline in Tesla’s vehicle registrations in Sweden, plummeting by 67% in 2025 to just 7,252 vehicles. While Tesla’s revenue rose to $28.2 billion in the second quarter of 2025, its operating margin fell to 1.4% from 4.1% the previous year, highlighting the financial strains caused by the prolonged dispute.
