Apple CEO Transition Update

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), will step down on September 1, 2026, after leading the company since 2011. During his tenure, Apple’s share price increased by 2,180%, and it briefly reached a market cap of $5 trillion earlier this month, though it has since fallen to $4.5 trillion as of July 30, 2026. John Ternus, currently the hardware chief and a 25-year Apple veteran, will succeed Cook as CEO.

Under Cook, Apple distributed $11.8 billion in dividends and conducted $62.1 billion in share repurchases through the first nine months of fiscal 2026, contributing to a total of $877 billion in buybacks since Cook took over. With Ternus at the helm, analysts anticipate a potential shift towards more aggressive growth-oriented investments, such as research and development, rather than just returning capital to shareholders.

Sales of the iPhone, which remains Apple’s flagship product, have increased by over 20% year over year in the last three fiscal quarters. The company is exploring future product lines, including a foldable phone and smart glasses, while also developing its AI capabilities to enhance its ecosystem.
