John B. Sanfilippo & Son (NASDAQ:JBSS) reported record fiscal 2026 net sales of $1.2 billion, marking a 4.6% increase in diluted earnings per share. However, the company faced challenges in its fourth quarter, with profitability declining due to significant costs, recall expenses, and customer charges, which pressured margins.

In the fiscal fourth quarter, net sales rose 4.2% to $280.4 million from the previous year’s $269.1 million. Net income dropped to $8.4 million, or $0.71 per diluted share, compared to $13.5 million, or $1.15 per diluted share, in the same quarter of the prior year. Gross profit fell 9.5% to $44.1 million, leading to a gross margin decline from 18.1% to 15.7% of sales.

Looking ahead, JBSS aims to enhance snack-nut volume and expand its bar portfolio amidst a challenging market. The company is investing in high-speed bar manufacturing capacity at its Elgin, Illinois facility, forecasting over $300 million in potential growth from new capacities ongoing through the next three to five years.
