Corn futures closed Monday with gains of 3 to 7 ¾ cents, with the CmdtyView national average cash corn price at $4.63, up 7 ¾ cents. As of August 23, 86% of the U.S. corn crop is in the dough stage, with 45% dented and only 6% mature. Condition ratings have declined by 3%, now at 47% rated in good to excellent condition, according to the Brugler500 index.
Export inspections for corn reported shipments at 1.296 million metric tons (MMT) for the week ending August 20, down 33.32% from the previous week and 3.16% year-over-year. Mexico was the largest destination, receiving 387,748 MT, followed by Japan at 306,842 MT and Colombia at 101,360 MT. The marketing year’s total exports have reached 82.28 MMT, 25.51% ahead of last year.
Pro Farmer’s recent estimates suggest a U.S. national yield of 173.2 bushels per acre (pba) and production at 15.344 billion bushels (bbu). Meanwhile, Agrural reports that the 2025/26 second corn crop is 92% harvested, trailing the 98% average, and the first corn crop for the 2026/27 season is only 2% planted, down from last year’s pace of 3.2%.
