Stanley Druckenmiller Divests Nvidia, Invests in AMD

Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller sold all of his shares in Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) in 2024, citing concerns over its high valuation despite previously holding a significant stake in the AI chip leader. He expressed some regret over the decision and indicated he might consider re-entering at a lower price point. Nvidia’s valuation peaked earlier this year at 17x forward earnings estimates but has since decreased.

In the second quarter of 2024, Druckenmiller opened a new position in Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD), acquiring 72,900 shares, representing 0.8% of his portfolio. AMD’s revenue reached $11 billion in the recent quarter, compared to Nvidia’s $96 billion, but its lower market valuation could signal more significant growth potential for investors.

As AI technologies continue to evolve, AMD has been expanding its offerings and recently doubled its data center revenue. This strategic move suggests that despite the impressive performance of Nvidia, there may be lucrative opportunities for growth in AMD.
