Novocure Limited (NVCR) disclosed unauthorized access to information systems through a subsidiary in mid-August 2026. The incident resulted in the exposure of internal patient ID numbers for over 1,400 U.S. patients, although these IDs were not linked to names or other identifying information. Additionally, fewer than 50 patients in the western U.S. were affected by further identifying data exposure.
As part of its response, Novocure activated its cybersecurity plan, implemented containment measures, and began an internal investigation with independent cybersecurity experts. The company reported that its medical treatment devices were not compromised and that core operations remained functional. Novocure’s market capitalization stands at $2.09 billion, and its shares have increased by 3.2% since the incident announcement on September 1, reflecting a year-to-date rise of 38.8%.
The breach adds to growing cybersecurity concerns in the healthcare sector, which has seen multiple incidents in 2026, including breaches at Boston Scientific and McKesson. Novocure plans to evaluate legal notification requirements and inform affected individuals as necessary.
