December arabica coffee (KCZ26) closed up 0.75 cents (+0.26%) on Wednesday, while November ICE robusta coffee (RMX26) rose 14 cents (+0.40%). The increase in coffee prices is attributed to tight near-term supplies, as ICE arabica inventories fell to a 27-year low of 218,838 bags.
Brazil’s coffee exports surged by 44.6% year-on-year in August to 206,618 metric tons, contributing to previous declines in prices. Meanwhile, Vietnam reported a 13.7% increase in coffee exports for the 2026 period, totaling 1.33 million metric tons. Heavy rains in Vietnam’s Central Highlands have raised concerns about potential crop damage, supporting robusta prices.
The USDA projects global coffee production for the 2026-27 season will rise by 6% to a record 189.7 million bags. The report indicates that arabica production is expected to increase by 12%, while robusta production may decline by 0.7%.
