Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has dramatically outperformed Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) in the AI accelerator market, with its data center segment now accounting for 92% of its revenue as of Q1 fiscal 2027. This marks a significant shift from four years ago when its data center business had just become the largest segment. In contrast, AMD’s data center business represented around 56% of its revenue during the same period, with the client and gaming segments comprising 35%.
For the first quarter of fiscal 2026, Nvidia reported an impressive revenue increase of 85%, while AMD achieved a 38% annual growth rate. Nvidia’s market position is bolstered by its first-mover advantage in AI accelerators, resulting in a lower valuation—31 times earnings—making it an attractive option for investors. Meanwhile, AMD continues to leverage its more diverse strategy focused on CPUs and GPUs, ensuring it remains competitive in the data center space.
