Live cattle futures experienced gains on Thursday, October 26, with increases ranging from 12 cents to $1.97. The Fed Cattle Exchange reported no sales from the 952 heads offered, with live bids at $220. Feeder cattle futures also closed higher, gaining between $1.25 and $2.87. The CME Feeder Cattle Index rose by $1.53 to $328.96.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices fell, with the Choice boxes decreasing by $2.40 to $378.37, and Select boxes down 28 cents to $352.06. The USDA estimated Thursday’s federally inspected cattle slaughter at 109,000 head, with a weekly total of 329,000, reflecting a decline due to the Monday holiday.
Closing prices for live cattle futures were: Oct 26 at $217.825 (up $1.975), Dec 26 at $219.600 (up $1.125), and Feb 27 at $221.150 (up $0.825). Feeder cattle prices closed at: Sep 26 at $332.575 (up $2.875), Oct 26 at $327.550 (up $1.725), and Nov 26 at $322.775 (up $1.425).
