Market Update
As of midday Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq Composite each fell 0.7%, while the S&P 500 experienced a smaller drop of 0.4%. Only seven out of 30 Dow stocks showed gains, with Chevron being a standout, rising 2% amid increasing oil prices.
The 10-year Treasury yield reached 5.041%, a peak not seen since July 2007, while the 30-year yield hit 5.401%. This surge in yields is expected to affect borrowing costs across various sectors, including car loans and corporate financing.
In the tech sector, chip stocks like Qualcomm and Advanced Micro Devices rebounded, gaining 4% and 2.3%, respectively. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs fell 2.9%, contributing significantly to the Dow’s decline.
