Cotton Market Shows Resilience for the Weekend

Cotton futures saw significant gains on Friday, with front-month contracts rising by 116 to 130 points, bringing December to a weekly increase of 40 points. The Commitment of Traders data revealed that managed money increased their net long position in cotton futures and options by 10,591 contracts during the week ending August 11, culminating in a total net long of 78,870 contracts—the highest in over two years.

As of this week, accumulated export business for the 2025/26 crop year reached 11.977 million running bales (RB), exceeding the USDA export projection by 107%. Total accumulated shipments for the marketing year stood at 11.198 million RB, while new crop business hit 4.026 million RB, a 25% increase compared to the same period last year. The Cotlook A Index remained stable at 94.95 cents as of August 13, while ICE certified cotton stocks fell by 1,779 bales, bringing the total to 75,985 bales. The Adjusted World Price was raised by 190 points to 68.19 cents per pound.
