Cotton Prices Surge Ahead of Thursday Market Close

**Cotton Futures and Export Sales Update**

On Thursday, cotton futures saw strength across most months, with contracts increasing between 10 and 74 points, while October’s contract slipped by 3 points. In related markets, crude oil rose by $5.88 per barrel, and the US dollar index climbed by 0.311.

According to the Export Sales report for the week ending July 16, a total of 51,287 running bales (RB) of cotton were sold for the 2025/26 marketing year, marking a rebound from previous lower levels. China emerged as the leading buyer with 15,500 RB, followed by Vietnam at 12,300 RB, and new crop business reflected 16,146 RB, notably with Vietnam purchasing 7,100 RB. Shipments reached a four-week high of 276,313 RB, primarily to Vietnam at 96,300 RB, and 42,700 RB to Pakistan.

As of July 22, the Cotlook A Index increased by 160 points to 89.60 cents, while ICE certified cotton stocks remained steady at 94,235 bales. The Adjusted World Price decreased by 155 points to 63.82 cents per pound. The closing figures for selected cotton contracts on October 26 were as follows: October at 79.84 cents (down 3 points), December at 81.21 cents (up 10 points), and March at 82.83 cents (up 38 points).
