Cotton Prices Surge on Thursday

On Thursday, cotton futures closed up by 81 to 139 points, with October 26 cotton finishing at 79.41 cents per pound, an increase of 139 points. Meanwhile, crude oil prices fell by 50 cents per barrel, and the US dollar index declined by 0.914.

Export sales data for the week of July 23 revealed 29,719 running bales (RB) of cotton sold for the 2025/26 marketing year, marking a seasonal low. Conversely, new crop business was robust, with 352,447 RB reported, led primarily by Vietnam purchasing 245,500 RB and India acquiring 42,200 RB. Additionally, shipments totaled 233,795 RB, with the largest destinations being Vietnam at 78,600 RB and Pakistan at 49,400 RB.

The Cotlook A Index fell by 35 points to 89.75 cents as of July 29, while ICE certified cotton stocks remained unchanged at 90,699 bales. The Adjusted World Price rose by 84 points to 64.66 cents per pound on Thursday.
