CoreWeave and Meta Investments Highlight AI Infrastructure Trends

Appaloosa Management, led by founder David Tepper, has acquired 1,078,248 shares of CoreWeave (NASDAQ: CRWV) during the second quarter, signaling a growing interest in the AI infrastructure market. CoreWeave, which specializes in providing Nvidia-based compute for AI workloads, reported a backlog of $104 billion, reflecting a 246% year-over-year increase. However, the company carries over $50 billion in total debt, raising concerns about its financial stability in a high-interest-rate environment.

In addition, Tepper increased his position in Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) by 55%, adding 238,500 shares. Meta is exploring leasing its excess AI compute capacity, potentially positioning itself as a rival to CoreWeave in the neocloud space. This dual investment strategy enables Tepper to hedge potential risks amid competition in the AI market while benefiting from both companies’ growth driven by the booming demand for AI capabilities.
