On July 25, lean hog futures increased by 47 to 92 cents in nearby contracts, while deferred contracts fell by 32 to 47 cents. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $97.58, marking a drop of 14 cents from the CME Lean Hog Index, which stood at $91.41 on June 26.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value decreased by $2.17 to $95.49. Estimated federally inspected hog slaughter reached 479,000 head on Tuesday, bringing the week-to-date total to 931,000, which is 11,000 head below the previous week and 8,161 head below the same week last year.
