Hogs Experience Slight Gains on Tuesday

Lean hog futures increased by 17 to 42 cents at Tuesday’s market close. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $100.22, rising $1.33 from the previous day. Additionally, the CME Lean Hog Index was up 51 cents, reaching $96.16 as of July 17.

In the USDA’s afternoon report, the pork carcass cutout value rose by $1.72 to $104.82, with notable increases in belly, rib, and ham prices. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday was estimated at 479,000 head, bringing the week-to-date total to 910,000 head—11,000 head lower than the previous week and 14,487 head fewer than the same period last year.

Hog futures for August, October, and December closed at $101.500, $88.125, and $79.250, marking increases of $0.225, $0.400, and $0.175, respectively.
