Mark Cuban Raises Concerns About Nvidia’s AI Financing Role
Mark Cuban has highlighted Nvidia’s increasing influence as a financial backer in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, likening it to the dot-com boom. In a post on July 28, 2023, he stated that Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is “funding everyone and anyone” across the AI ecosystem. As of April 26, 2026, Nvidia had $42.3 billion in private investments and $27 billion in contingent asset commitments, indicating its substantial financial involvement with companies like OpenAI and CoreWeave.
However, Cuban warns that while Nvidia’s investments are significant, they do not guarantee self-sustaining sales. Many AI firms still rely heavily on external funding, with specialized cloud operators facing greater financial risk. For example, CoreWeave reported $2.1 billion in revenue but incurred $6.8 billion in capital expenditures in the first quarter of 2026, illustrating the challenges of sustaining growth in a tightening financial environment.
