Musk Acknowledges Underestimation of Anthropic’s AI: A Call to Action for Amazon and Alphabet Investors

Elon Musk recently acknowledged his change of perspective on AI startup Anthropic, praising it as the “obvious leader in AI” and its Claude models as the strongest. This marks a notable shift from his previous dismissal of the company. Anthropic has raised a significant funding round, increasing its market valuation to approximately $965 billion, a compelling development for its major investors, Amazon and Alphabet.

Amazon holds a stake in Anthropic in the mid- to high teens, while Alphabet owns about 14%. Collectively, these stakes could be valued well over $100 billion. Furthermore, Anthropic plans to spend over $100 billion on Amazon Web Services and around $200 billion on Google Cloud over the next five years. This results in a dual benefit for both companies: appreciation in investment value and substantial revenue from cloud services.

Despite the promising outlook, investors are cautioned to consider that much of the perceived profit from these investments stems from unrealized gains rather than operational earnings. The future performance of Anthropic is crucial, especially given its substantial valuation and ongoing investments, which could lead to volatility if market conditions change.
