Tesla’s Semi Truck Production Boosted by Major Order
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has received an order for 500 of its all-electric Semi trucks from Einride AB, significantly increasing its cumulative sales, which had previously totaled only a few hundred units. This order triples Tesla’s lifetime sales for the Semi and comes ahead of a planned event on September 24 to celebrate the opening of a new factory dedicated to the vehicle.
Since its unveiling in 2017, Tesla aimed to capture 3% of the semi-truck market within five years, a potential market opportunity exceeding $100 billion annually. However, the Tesla Semi has faced challenges in adoption, with an estimated cost of $350,000, compared to $165,000 for traditional diesel trucks, hindering demand despite a push for sustainable transport.
Analysts foresee that while production is set to scale with rising demand, significant growth in sales may depend on advancements in autonomous trucking, projected to gain traction in the U.S. by 2032 as Tesla continues to invest in self-driving technology.
