BioMarin Pharmaceutical (BMRN) has reached a settlement with Ascendis Pharma (ASND) regarding their competing therapies for achondroplasia, with Ascendis agreeing to pay BioMarin royalties on Yuviwel sales. Effective from the first commercial sale through May 20, 2030, BioMarin will receive 20% of annual net sales in the United States and 18% in the European Union, Brazil, and South Korea. This decision follows substantial patent disputes across multiple countries, which will now be dismissed as part of the settlement.
Yuviwel launched in April 2026, generating €8 million in revenue during its first quarter, with over 220 patients enrolled by the end of July. BioMarin’s Voxzogo, FDA-approved in 2021, remains at risk of market share loss despite now benefiting from the royalty arrangement. Additionally, BridgeBio Pharma has submitted a regulatory filing for a new oral therapy for achondroplasia, which could create further competitive pressures for BioMarin as the landscape evolves.
