Robotaxi Market Projections and Tesla’s Position
The global robotaxi market is projected to reach $415 billion by 2035, with the U.S. market contributing $48 billion, according to Goldman Sachs. In a significant revision, the bank has updated its 2030 estimates for the robotaxi market from $7 billion to $19 billion, indicating a more optimistic outlook for autonomous vehicles.
Tesla, positioned as a key player in this industry, is anticipated to capture 80% of the market share, according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives. Meanwhile, Tesla’s autonomous taxi service is priced at approximately $8.17 per ride in San Francisco, significantly lower than its competitors, including Lyft and Waymo. The company’s estimated production cost for its autonomous vehicles, or “Cybercabs,” aims to be below $30,000, contrasting sharply with Waymo’s vehicles which can cost several hundred thousand dollars.
Moreover, Tesla’s integration of artificial intelligence, bolstered by its co-ownership of the AI division of SpaceX, provides a technological advantage that is critical for advancing self-driving capabilities. AI is deemed essential for achieving full autonomy, which is crucial for a scalable robotaxi fleet.
