Cummins Boosts Revenue Amid AI Spending Surge
Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) reported a 19% year-over-year increase in Power Systems sales during Q2, driven by soaring demand for backup power solutions in data centers. S&P Global projects that major tech companies—including Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and Oracle—will collectively invest about $750 billion in capital expenditures by 2026, significantly boosting the need for reliable backup generators.
The shift towards AI-driven data centers is evident, with traditional racks consuming around 12 kilowatts, while next-gen AI racks could require over 600 kilowatts. As part of its growth strategy, Cummins has also formed a partnership with Circe Energy to supply high-powered natural gas generators for a microgrid in West Texas, set for delivery between 2026 and 2030.
